…whom the church calls “the light of the world”, the solstice was the natural choice. The church also observes the four weeks before Christmas as the season of Advent, a time of preparation to welcome “the light of the world” into hears and deeds.
This year, St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Holy Cross Episcopal Church are joining forces each Thursday evening at 6 p.m., to explore the accounts of Jesus’s birth in the four Gospels of the New Testament. Revs. Matthew Dennison and Carol Carlson will lead participants through the various stories and commentary on the event, trying to discern in each one its particular “message” about Jesus.
Format for the eveings will be supper at 6 p.m., furnished by the host church, Holy Cross, on Dec. 1 and 5 and St. Peter’s on Dec. 8 and 22, then an hour examining the scriptures, concluding with a brief time of reflection and worship.
Everyone in the community, whether church members or not, is invited for this “time off” from the sometimes-frantic pace of the holiday season, to learn about and reflect on the events it celebrates.
