It’s a “Grape Day” in the Kingdom!

The pie-baking, goodie-making marathon at Holy Cross Episcopal Church is about to begin as Wine Festival 2018 approaches.  This is our largest annual fundraiser, and the funds raised from this event allowed us to share the 2017  proceeds with several outreach ministries, both locally and abroad. Proceeds from this year’s  Wine Festival will enable us to further that mission. So we gather supplies and recruit helping hands.

Our grape pies have become known locally and beyond, with phone-in orders coming from quite a distance. Each year everything is sold out and folks were still stopping by and phoning in to see if we had any left several days after the Wine Festival concluded. Last year was no exception and unfortunately we weren’t able to accommodate them even with an increased volume in production. Our new oven turned out to be the blessing we had hoped for and enabled us to produce even more.

Pie baking will begin on Thursday, September 27th, and pies will be available for sale that day beginning at 1:00 PM from the church parish hall located at 51 West Main Street. They will also be sold from our tent located on the corner of West Main and South Pearl Streets beginning Friday, September 28th through Sunday, September 30th. Sunday sales begin at 12:00 following the morning worship services which we cordially invite you to join us at either 8:30 or 10:30 AM.

The cost of a pie remains at $13.00 and pies are available in both regular and sugar free.  We welcome advance orders.  Please call the church at 814-725-4679 and leave your name, telephone number, the number of pies being ordered and the day you will pick them up. Our tent will also feature our annual array of goodies like Swedish rye bread, caramel corn, peanut butter and chocolate fudge as well as an assortment of treats to satisfy a variety of tastes. A coffee and slice of pie combination, along with other refreshments, will be available if you want to stop and take a break from all the festivities around the community.

Our star, our gal dressed as a bunch of grapes, is Holy Cross’s ambassador for this event and has become somewhat of a celebrity, having been interviewed by local and regional newspapers as well as the central figure of a wedding party photo shoot. Stop by, take a picture and say hello…

We have alot of fun during the harvest season in North East at Holy Cross and welcome the opportunity to “welcome you”  to endulge yourself with some of the treats we have to offer. Stop by, say ‘hello’ and you will quickly understand what we mean when we say IT’S A “GRAPE DAY” IN THE KINGDOM! Hope to see you there.
