Episcopal Bishops Issue A Word to the Church for the World

October 2, 2016

A Word to the Church for the World

Greetings from Detroit, a city determined to be revived.  Greetings also from the city of Flint, where we are reminded that the gift of water has for many of our brothers and sisters become contaminated.

Here we have been exhorted to set our sights beyond ourselves and to minister to the several nations where we serve and the wider world.

We lament the stark joylessness that marks our present time.

See our Real-life Bunch of Grapes!

September 15, 2016

IT’S A “GRAPE DAY” IN THE KINGDOM!  The pie-baking, goodie-making marathon at Holy Cross Episcopal Church is about to begin for the 2016 Wine Festival. The aroma of grapes is in the air. Supplies are being gathered and workers are being recruited for this, our largest annual fundraiser.  We have been involved in many outreach ministries over the past year and proceeds from this event will help to further that mission.

Community-Wide Yard Sale

May 9, 2016

…And Holy Cross is no exception – we are ‘on the map’.  Preparations are well under way to participate in this community event.  The parish hall has been reconfigured into a shopper’s dream offering items ranging from gadgets and kitchen items to furniture that can be seen in the sanctuary or outside, weather permitting.  Videos, books, music, clothing (lots of children’s items) are available.

A new addition to what Holy Cross offers during the annual yard sale is pepperoni balls.

A Word to the Church

April 23, 2016

March 15, 2016

We reject the idolatrous notion that we can ensure the safety of some by sacrificing the hopes of others.

On Good Friday the ruling political forces of the day tortured and executed an innocent man. They sacrificed the weak and the blameless to protect their own status and power. On the third day Jesus was raised from the dead, revealing not only their injustice but also unmasking the lie that might makes right.

The Bishop is coming, The Bishop is coming…

December 10, 2015

Because of his inordinately busy schedule as of late, Bishop Sean isn’t able to make ‘annual’ visits as he had done previously.  So every opportunity Holy Cross has to welcome him is a cause for joy and celebration.  As many of you may know, the Diocese of NWPA is sharing our Bishop with the Diocese of Bethlehem and he is helping them find their direction which will enable them to call a bishop of their own in the future.

On Summer vacation?

August 8, 2015

Centering Prayer is a discipline that was encouraged and began during this Lent and has continued on Monday evenings at 6 PM for anyone wishing to spend time in prayer and meditation.

It’s hard to believe that the new school year is about to begin in a few short weeks.  Did it just end not too long ago? That being said, the Adopt-a-Student program for 2015 has begun.  This program is in its 8th year and is a collaborative effort of the North East School district and the North East Council of Churches to make the first day of school an exciting event to a child in need.
